What do we know about the Aelfinn and Eelfinn?
*leser nå, skriver referat når jeg er ferdig*
Eh, gløm det; jeg siterer det jeg ser som mest relevant her:
Both races have ancient treaties with humans. The terms of their treaties stipulate that humans shall not bring any musical instruments, iron objects, or devices for making light. The Aelfinn and Eelfinn benefit in bizarre ways. To put it roughly, they rummage through lives and memories of those who stand before them, though the benefits are unclear. They also somehow inhale the "aroma" of a person, again for an unknown benefit.
The nature of the ancient treaty is that the Aelfinn will truthfully answer any three questions put before them by a person using the doorway. However, the answers are abstruse and incomplete at best, and there is a risk. Questions touching upon the Shadow are punished, as are frivolous questions, though what exactly constitutes frivolity may vary from person to person.
Ok, fra disse to siste kan vi se at det bare er Aelfinn'ene som har den klausulen om at spørsmål om Skyggen blir straffet. Men reglene for Eelfinn-ter'angrealen er jo temmelig "shady", siden den har stått i Rhuidean i et par tusen år...The Eelfinn treaty may best be summed up as a granting of "three wishes," with a dangerous rider. A person may make up to three requests, but these may not be granted exactly as the asker had in mind. Additionally, there is a price the asker must pay. Wise people will set the price before making requests, though some foolish people have failed to do so in the past.
Ikke så mye å hente her, dessverre. Mesteparten har vel vært framme allerede.Snakes and Foxes
Snakes and Foxes is a children’s game in the Wheel of Time universe, the object of which is to move the player’s piece to the center of the circular board without getting caught by "enemy" snake and fox pieces. However, a quirk to the rules makes the game impossible to win without cheating. As soon as they realize this, most children stop playing.
The game is begun by making the sign of a wavy line through a triangle, and chanting the verse:
Courage to strengthen,
Fire to blind.
Music to daze,
Iron to bind.
-The Shadow Rising, The Tower of Ghenjei
The game is a memory of old dealings with the Aelfinn and Eelfinn, hence the symbols and the verse’s similarity to the requests made by the Aelfinn and Eelfinn on the other side of the doorways.
